Life and Labour in a Gujarat Taluka (1937) :: rare First Edition

For bibliophiles and those interested in the history of Gujarat, we are pleased to offer an extremely rare and hard-to-find First Edition of a unique study on the life and labour conditions in the Olpad taluka of Surat. First published in 1937 in Bombay, Life and Labour in a Gujarat Taluka was one of the first comprehensive socio-economic studies of a cluster of villages in a particular taluka in rural British India.

This rare First Edition offers an exhaustive study of the geographical and physical features of Olpad taluka in Surat district, an analysis of the population and the demographics, the quality of the land and the nature of land holding, agricultural capital and labour, the agricultural wealth of the region, and the relationship between transport and marketing. One of the most interesting parts of this book delves into a detailed analysis of agrarian indebtedness in the taluka and the emergence of the cooperative credit movement.

Numerous images of this precious rarity, including the complete table of contents, are attached herewith for the perusal of those interested.
