Wealth of Gujarat (1943) :: rare & out-of-print First Edition

For bibliophiles and those interested in the history of Gujarat, we are pleased to offer an extremely rare and out-of-print First Edition that was the first comprehensive book on the economic and industrial resources of Gujarat. First published in August 1943 in Bombay, Wealth of Gujarat appeared at a time when Gujarat was a part of the Bombay Presidency in British India.

The first part of this rare First Edition contains a detailed description of the natural environments of Gujarat and deals exhaustively with her economic resources viz. mineral, forest, agricultural, cattle, marine and human wealth as well as the various transport facilities. The second part delves into a serious discussion on the conditions of Gujarat's large-scale, small-scale, cottage & village industries. The scope of these industries, their marketing difficulties, their size, their financial needs, their inter se competition, state policy etc. were thoroughly analysed, and valuable recommendations offered to improve their state. This book contains numerous analytical tables covering a multitude of aspects including the historical figures of annual rainfall, the mileage & the gauge of the railways, the population demography etc.

This rare book was authored and published by Prof. Anantray Bhagwanji Trivedi, a notable economist who taught at the Birla College in Pilani. In the late 1930s, as the Investigator of the Northern Division of the Bombay Economic and Industrial Survey Committee, Prof. Trivedi studied the economic and industrial conditions of Kathiawar and British Gujarat. This rare book was dedicated by the author to "two distinguished members" of the Bombay Stock Exchange viz. Kalyanbhai C. Nanavaty and Navalchand T. Shah.

This rare First Edition was printed at the Bombay Vaibhav Press by the well-known trade union leader R. R. Bakhale, who was the founding member of the Bombay Textile Labour Union that was formed in 1925.

Numerous images of this precious rarity, including the complete table of contents, are attached herewith for the perusal of those interested.
