Ramcharitmanas (1976) :: rare First Edition by Ramnarayan Nagardas Pathak

For bibliophiles and for those interested in Indian mythology, we are pleased to offer an extremely rare First Edition of the Ramcharitmanas translated into Gujarati by Ramnarayan Nagardas Pathak.

Born in 1905, Ramnarayan Nagardas Pathak was profoundly influenced by Gandhiji and was actively involved in the satyagraha movement. He nurtured a deep interest in folk literature and Sanskrit poetry. His novels were imbued with the nationalist ideology. In the 1940s, he was one of the first to translate the work of Premchand into Gujarati. In the 1970s, he undertook to translate a selection of around 2500 dohas of the Ramcharitmanas into Gujarati. First published in 1976this book contains the original Awadhi dohas in Gujarati script followed by the Gujarati translation.

This rare First Edition features a portrait of Tulsidas by the great artist Ravishankar Raval. The cover art and the frontispiece were designed by Somalal Shah, a remarkable artist who was also a student of Kshitindranath Mazumdar.
