Textiles :: rare/scarce & out-of-print publications

For connoisseurs of Indian textiles & handicrafts, we are pleased to offer a selection of rare/scarce & out-of-print publications covering a wide range of textile traditions.

The first book on Asian Textiles features the unique collection in the Association for the Study and Documentation of Asian Textiles (A.E.D.T.A.) in Paris. It deals with handmade textiles from the 15th to the 20th century in India, China, Japan, Indonesia and Persia. With insightful essays on printing, dyeing, and weaving techniques, Mughal and Persian innovations, and fabrics for export, this beautiful hardback book is an indispensable reference on textile art. The second book is a comprehensive survey of the Kalamkari tradition in India. This volume traces the roots of this fascinating craft with individual chapters on its various forms & motifs across India. The third book — Warp & Woof — focuses on the treasures of rare, historical textiles in the Calico Museum in Ahmedabadone of the most celebrated museums in the world for its comprehensive collection of textiles & artifacts. This vintage publication was published on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Calico Mills. The fourth book delves into the rich tradition of Indian Silks. This volume examines some of the finest regional traditions of silk weaves from the earliest Assam altar cloths and Gujarati textiles to exquisite Mughal silk embroideries, heavy Benares brocades, rich Kanchipuram saris, pictorial Bengali Balucharis, and intricate Maharashtrian Paithanis.
