Marathi Jagat (1989) :: rare & out-of-print

On 12–13 August 1989, the first World Marathi Conference was held in Mumbai with the participation of leading intellectuals from myriad spheres of activity in the state of Maharashtra. We are now pleased to offer a highly rare and out-of-print First Edition of the superlative book — Marathi Jagat — that was published on this occasion.

This rare book in Marathi is divided into two primary sections. The first section comprises of four parts: i] the cultural landscape of Maharashtra (including separate chapters on education, language, theatre, folklore, fine arts, journalism, literature, music, sculpture, and a conversation with Kusumagraj); ii] the sociological fabric of Maharashtra; iii] science, technology & industry in Maharashtra (including the judicial system and rural agricultural economy); iv] an exhaustive bibliography on Maharashtra. The second section consists of two parts: i] national (including the historical background of the Bombay Presidency, a conversation with Vasant Sathe, and separate chapters on the Marathi milieu in West Bengal, Santiniketan, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad, Gujarat and the Andaman Islands); ii] international (including separate chapters on the Marathi milieu in the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Mauritius, Afghanistan and Muscat).

Enriched with some of the finest essays on Maharashtra and its culture, this unique book was not reprinted and is extremely rare and hard to find.

Several images of this highly rare First Edition, including the complete table of contents, are attached herewith for the perusal of those interested.
