Harivallabh Bhayani :: a collection of highly rare First Editions

For bibliophiles and those interested in Gujarati literature, we are pleased to offer a collection of extremely rare and hard-to-find First Editions featuring the writings of the great Gujarati author, linguist and translator Harivallabh Bhayani.

The first book — Shabda Katha — is one of the most fascinating works delving into the story of Gujarati words & colloquialisms. In this book, Harivallabh Bhayani has chosen a collection of Gujarati words and has elaborated upon their source, historical meaning, usage, and all their ensuing connotations. The second book, Gatha-Madhuri, contains Harivallabh Bhayani's masterful translations of Hala Kavi's anthology of ancient Prakrit poems known as the Gaha-kosa or Gaha Sattasai. This book was published by the great poet Umashankar Joshi; the selections in this landmark Gujarati translation include delightful ancient couplets on the theme of nature & the seasons, romantic love, and myriad facets of human behaviour. The original Prakrit text and the Gujarati translation of the poems are printed parallelly on facing pages in this beautiful book. The third book — Bhasha-Vimarsh — contains some of the finest writings of Harivallabh Bhayani on linguistics in Gujarati.

Numerous images of these precious rarities (including the complete table of contents of each book) are attached herewith for the perusal of those interested.
