Women in Dutch Painting (1988) :: rare First Edition

Conceived by the great artist Akbar Padamsee in collaboration with the gallerist Pheroza Godrej, the psychotherapist Udayan Patel and the art patron Ajay Lakhanpal, XAL–PRAXIS was a unique art movement in India that blossomed in the late 1980s and the early 1990s. This movement owed its name to Ajay Lakhanpal — X symbolised "the unknown factor" followed by his initials A & L, while Praxis was the Greek equivalent of the English term "practice" that implied learning by doing.

Though XAL–PRAXIS was devoted primarily to the espousal of printmaking as a fine art, this movement also fostered the publication of a few distinctive volumes of poetry and plays.

We are now pleased to offer an extremely rare First Edition of poems by the great poet and literary pedagogue Eunice de Souza. First published in 1988 by Adil Jussawalla for XAL-PRAXIS, the title of this rare book — Women in Dutch Painting — refers to one of the best-known short poems by Eunice de Souza, who was inspired by the depiction of women in the paintings of Rembrandt and other Dutch masters.

Several images of this precious rarity are attached herewith for the perusal of those interested.
